The Issue
In 2013, Vernon Trails entered into an agreement with the VFW to create, develop, and maintain an 18-hole disc golf course. What was once unusable land has become a well-loved community asset with a regional draw. Veteran Hills is recognized as one of the best free courses in Wisconsin. This property is also highly utilized by the public for year-round outdoor recreation including hiking, snowshoeing, Nordic skiing, and winter fat biking. It has recently come to our attention that the VFW intends to sell this land. We are hopeful to work with the City to purchase the land and keep this outdoor recreational space for generations to come.
We, the citizens of Viroqua and the visitors who enjoy the land, ask the VFW for the opportunity to work with the City of Viroqua to purchase this property. We ask the City of Viroqua to make this a priority. This falls squarely in line with the city’s stated goals outlined in the new comprehensive outdoor recreation plan. Please show the citizens of Viroqua that the preservation of outdoor spaces and outdoor recreation is important.
