Outdoor enthusiasts! We thought it time to provide you with a VFW land update.
We heard you loud and clear that the VFW land is important to the citizens of Viroqua and you want to retain this outdoor space.
Vernon Trails has been working diligently to try and preserve this outdoor space for our community and visitors. In collaboration with the City of Viroqua, we have made two attempts to work with the VFW to secure this land for recreation. We originally made a fair offer to purchase the land. The VFW did not accept that offer. Then a month ago, we presented an offer to lease the land, far above market rate for any comparable land lease to date. The VFW countered with an unreasonable lease offer. We were made aware that they invited yet another realtor to their recent VFW board meeting. It has been difficult to get clear communication from the VFW, but we remain committed to this effort and hope they will decide to work with us. We want to help them solve their financial needs, while also preserving this beautiful spot for outdoor recreation.
If this is important to you, contact the VFW and tell them to work with Vernon Trails and keep this land open to the public. Selling to the highest bidder would be a terrible loss for our citizens and our visitors.
